Help for street dogs in India
Auroville Stray Relief and Animal Welfare
A desperate call for help reached us from Auroville/India from Mrs. Ingrid Tscharntke, who takes care of the sad lot of the street dogs there. As pariahounds they have to live a pitiful existence and are often responsible for deadly rabies infections in humans. Since it is above all the animal welfare-friendly capture for castration and vaccination of the feral and frightened animals that causes problems, we let Mrs. Tscharntke take part in our student seminar and instructed her in blowpipe technology and handling. We gave her a sufficient amount of "Hellabrunner mixture" as basic medication on her way home and thus smoothed the first steps to a painless and fearless capture with subsequent general anesthesia for surgery.
